La primera edici\u00f3n atribuye la obra al protagonista de ficci\u00f3n <em>Robinson Crusoe<\/em> como su autor, y fue publicada bajo el considerablemente largo y original t\u00edtulo de <em>The Life and Strange Surprizing Adventures of Robinson Cruose, of York, Mariner: Who lived Eight and Twenty Years, all alone in an un-inhabited Island on the Coast of America, near the Mouth of the Great River of Oroonoque; Having been cast on Shore by Shipwreck, wherein all the Men perished but himself. With An Account how he was at last as strangely deliver&#8217;d by Pirates<\/em>. Epistolar, confesional y did\u00e1ctica en la forma, el libro es una autobiograf\u00eda ficticia del protagonista (cuyo nombre verdadero es Robinson Kreutznaer), un n\u00e1ufrago que pasa a\u00f1os en una remota isla tropical cerca de Trinidad, encontr\u00e1ndose con can\u00edbales, cautivos y amotinados antes de ser rescatados. A pesar de su estilo narrativo sencillo, <em>Robinson Crusoe<\/em> fue bien recibido en el mundo literario y, a menudo, se le acredita como el principio de la ficci\u00f3n realista como g\u00e9nero literario.
